The 2008 Lincoln Navigator was driven by a 75-year-old from Port St. Lucie. He was chauffeuring a family of four including two parents, a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy. The family had just arrived from Chicago for a vacation in the area, but they never made it to their hotel that evening. The elderly drive claims that he lost control of the wheel when the limousine went careening towards a thick concrete pole. All the occupants were rushed to the Broward County Health Medical Center right away. The victim's injuries were not life threatening, but certainly hampered their ability to have an enjoyable vacation in Fort Lauderdale. Police reports say that the limo driver also hit a parked car in the parking garage before hitting the pillar. The limo was totaled. Presently, the police are trying to determine whether or not the older gentleman driving the car was intoxicated. There is a high possibility that he was not fully aware of what he was doing behind the wheel because he had been consuming alcohol at the time. Alcoholic beverages can be very dangerous when paired with driving. Those who drink too much will end up with impaired faculties, and may not be able to decipher where barriers are. This can create a potential for accidents, both violent and nonthreatening. Whether someone is harmed or not, the driver can be arrested for driving when intoxicated.
